Designer Love: Peter Soronen

Despite living in a fashion challenged part of the Midwest, I sometimes get to participate in fabulous fashion events.  Such was the case over the weekend when I worked as a dresser for ten fashion shows which showcased student work as well as local and celebrity designers.  One of the final shows I worked on was for Peter Soronen.  Known for his corsetry, Soronen has dressed Michelle Obama, Tina Fey, Jennifer Hudson, and many others.  The collection he showed this weekend was full of pleated skirts, airy chiffons, and curvaceous corsets.  There were two black dresses in particular that made me think "Degas on goth" with their ballerina skirts and tight bodices.  The construction on the inside is just as beautiful as the outside, and when the designer caught me admiring his work, he asked me if I liked it.  Naturally, I couldn't help but exclaim, "It's beautiful!"
